A Family Story with Local Roots
Founded in 2012 by Staten Island native Megan Coppola, Beans and Leaves Coffee and Tea Café was inspired by a love for coffee that was nurtured by her former boss, Angela Matalas of the former Coffee and Tea Market, as well as a love for the West Brighton community. The original design concept for the store paid homage to Megan’s grandmother, Claire, an immigrant from France, that worked in the store’s original storefront in the 1970’s. Today, the cafe blends tradition, family and passion into every detail, making it a true Staten Island landmark.
Locally Owned & Community Focused
In 2021, after years of procrastination and hesitation, Megan finally took the leap to open a second location with one of her long time, trusted managers, Danielle Bianchi. December 2021, the second Beans and Leaves was officially born and a labor of love and determination began on the South Shore of Staten Island. It hasn’t been an easy road, but with patience and perseverance, Beans South has become something we are so proud of! A little history on our Danielle.. she came to Megan as her very first food person on Forest Avenue on April 1st, 2015. And she just LOVED working for her so much, she decided she could never leave! (Hee hee, just kidding!) Truthfully, Meg decided pretty early on, that Dan was stuck with her and when the conversation arose one sunny afternoon about possibly opening a location together, Meg was thrilled and quickly plans were made! After Covid had squashed another plan in the making and a second Beans location no longer seemed like it was in the cards, suddenly the dream came back to life and together the idea for a second location had a fresh and vibrant heartbeat and whole new level of excitement. From new menu options to out of the box drink ideas, Arthur Kill has been a huge part of the new innovation behind Beans and Leaves!
